Casting our pieces in brass is one of the reasons it resembles fine jewelry. Brass is a superior base metal compared to zinc, tin, or other white metal alloys. Brass is more fluid and has flexibility which makes it easier to work with in the casting process. White metal alloys are much more brittle which requires heavier rings and prongs, whereas brass can be more refined, more like fine jewelry. Brass is more durable and less likely to corrode than white metals.
